I'm not really a big gamer in the digital sense.
I'm pretty much a chess, go, backgammon, pente fan.
I have zero idea what's good in terms of "modern" video games and my GPU is not really good enough to run any of them.
But, I thought I would weigh in.
For a completely addictive mobile game that doesn't suck - Mini Metro.
The design is top notch, and the music, for me, triggered ASMR.
It's a really simple strategy game and I only play it once in a while, but when I do it's great.
U.S. here so the C64 was the thing, we never got the Spectrum.
Before that, my first computer was Texas Instruments 99/4A and it actually had some awesome games.
Later I had a c128 that had programmable sprites and I made my own version of Spy Hunter complete with joystick control and music.
Good times.
edit: I too was totally into Commando. I also loved Raid on Bugeling Bay
This reminds me of the voice over in this Cymatics - Bringing Matter To Life With Sound
Some people absolutely love The Far Side and others don't.
At first glance I honestly didn't get it, but the sun/magnifying glass cell is so morbid and at the same time so funny it reminds me of The Far Side. The rabbit's idea of suicide is going to take a long time...yet the smoke rising from his head kind of says, "not as long as you think".
The picture on the wall of a happier time makes it even funnier.
This is totally about money.
Two quotes from the article, first the Nyt's perception of the bill -
The Senate’s vote was a victory for giant telecommunications and cable companies. The F.C.C. chairman under the Obama administration, Tom Wheeler, had declared that broadband would be regulated more heavily, by categorizing the service in the same regulatory bucket as telephone services, which are viewed as utilities. That move acknowledged the importance of the internet for communications, education, work and commerce and the need to protect online users, Mr. Wheeler had said.
And here's the industry's response -
“We appreciate today’s Senate action to repeal unwarranted F.C.C. rules that deny consumers consistent privacy protection online and violate competitive neutrality,” the cable industry lobby group, NCTA-The Internet & Television Association, said in a statement on Thursday.
So, not letting telcos sell my surfing habits/history denies my privacy?
Come the fuck on.
Meanwhile everyone will just talk about the delayed healthcare repeal and this won't really get any traction.
I think this guy is a serial killer.
Here's the other good one Jimmy Fallon, Miley Cyrus & The Roots Sing "We Can't Stop" (A Cappella)
Here's a great interview with Feist
And here's another Sesame Street: The Leaky Faucet
Here's another Sesame Street - Bring That Thing
As for cycling flicks, another is Breaking Away (1979)
This should probably be posted to /h/movies but, whatever.
If I am going to play non strategy games I like to go old school.
I also love mame for Donkey Kong (I actually made it to the kill screen...with about 200 saves - but I never lost a man!) and Centipede.
