From my perspective...we're in uncharted territory here and we have been since about 2015.

Actually 2008, or 1860...

With that said a ton of people involved in the Jan 6th coup have been prosecuted.

Drastic and paradigm shifting events have taken place in the world since about 2008, and whenever that happens people freak the fuck out.

In our crazy "American Experiment" this really is the second time, caused by internal forces, that we either stand up for what we say we believe, or the whole thing crumbles.

The first was our civil war - one we never stopped fighting.

So we have to do it again, this time in the courts, instead of hundreds of thousands killed.

But if we don't get this done and make it clear that we really are a country that respects the rule of law then...

The "American Experiment" ends.

In answer to your question, we can't eliminate the craziness, but we can make it very clear that it will not be tolerated.

This isn't meant to belittle the situations in any way but this scene in Seven Psychopaths was completely crazy to me until I realized...it's real.

Actually here's a much better movie reference

We defend people's right to say something that we would oppose and fight against.

But we can't eliminate it.

Yeah, I know, and I just don't get it.

I remember seeing tape of the...I think the 1980 repiblican convention and seeing a huge group of anti ERA women.

I asked my parents what the era was and after they explained it my first question was, "Why wouldn't they want to support that?"

My small brain couldn't understand it then, and my older brain can't understand it now...

I guess there is some innate need for an authority/father figure who will make everything o.k. - see the rise of facism world wide.

I just don't get it, at all.

edit: edited for clarity

A certain party has begun using insane language about fellow Americans.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/democrats-blasted-gov-mcmaster-remark-hunting-dogs-rcna85744

“I look forward to the day that Democrats are so rare, we have to hunt them with dogs,” McMaster said at a state GOP convention, a reporter for The State newspaper, Joseph Bustos, tweeted during the event.

And if this guy can get a year in prison for taking pictures of a submarine I think our nuclear attack plans on Iran should get...a little more than that.

We got to the indictment phase, but if TFG walks because of a hung jury or technicality in a slam dunk case then those who think the justice system is broken may have a point.
